Joan Isaac

JOAN ISAAC

Joan Isaac is the artistic name of Joan Vilaplana i Comín, Catalan singer-songwriter, poet and musician. He’s one of the great voices of the Catalan songs. Defender of the author’s song, he works as a singer-songwriter, giving his compositions extraordinary beauty and sensitivity. His songs talk about love, lack of love, life, reflecting and denouncing, at the same time, the lack of communication and loneliness of people in an increasingly dehumanized society.
He coincides with other authors such as Marina Rossell and Ramon Muntaner, a new generation of creators in the framework of NOVA CANÇÓ movement, which follow the footsteps of ‘Els Setze Jutges’.
The emergence of Joan Isaac as a singer did not take place until 1977 with the release of his second album. In this work, his most emblematic song is recorded for the first time: “A Margalida”, which has become a popular song in Catalonia, and has become a hymn against the death penalty.
