Maria del Mar Bonet

She is a singer songwriter born in Palma. She started her career in “Els Setze Jutges” musical collaboration which originated in 1961 from the defence of Catalan language and normalization of its use. Els Setze Jutges started the NOVA CANÇÓ, an artistic movement which stood up for the linguistic and cultural identity of the Catalan people.

In 1968, Bonet composed music for a poem by Lluís Serrahima called “Què Volen Aquesta Gent?” The song came to be one of Bonet’s most popular and secured her position as one of the most important singer songwriters of the 60s and 70s. She was often censored by the dictatorship, despite this she performed in counties such as: Switzerland, France, Germany, Mexico, Japan and the USSR.

She is currently celebrating her 50 year career with the tour ’50 ANYS D’ESCENARIS’ which she is combining with the presentation of her album ‘ULTRAMAR’.
